About The Position

The Piper Center for Vocation and Career is seeking a Student Summer Communications and Graphic Designer to develop and update a number of web pages and create other communications content in preparation for the academic year. The position is part time and seasonal: 6-12 hours per week for 8-12 weeks, based on the person’s availability. Transferable Skills: Develop transferable skills in a professional setting. Student employees in the Piper Center will join a dynamic group that is committed to helping students leverage their liberal arts education to achieve their full potential. Students will: apply technical and data skills in a professional context contribute ideas for making the Piper Center even more effective get to know the professional staff of the Piper Center

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well independently and to collaborate effectively with staff
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Creative ability to use insights from data analytics
  • Flexibility and desire to work in a fluid environment, assisting where needed
  • Familiarity with Piper Center events and resources is strongly preferred
  • Positive attitude and interest in the Piper Center’s programs and resources
  • Basic proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, video editing, WordPress and/or other web editing tools

Nice To Haves

  • Graphic design skills are preferred (but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Support the office staff with project management, organization, and analysis related to web content creation and review
  • Coordinate and manage the review process; interface with coaches based on specialty areas; ensure content updates are made in a timely manner
  • Write promotional content for Piper Center events and resources for use in print materials, emails, and the Piper Center website
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department and external website designers regarding overall integration with the St. Olaf College site standards
  • Implement the content and site design changes on the site in the WordPress platform
  • Write and edit informative video clips for commonly asked Piper Center questions
  • Edit content produced by staff members
  • Assist with an evaluation of the Piper Center website to identify redundancies, obsolete information, and inefficiencies to suggest changes to better streamline content
  • Perform benchmarking against other leading career centers to determine best practices
  • Analyze content engagement and make recommendations to improve
  • Work with Piper Center staff to understand staff expectations and event audiences
  • Contribute to marketing strategy
  • As needed, perform duties related to the general operations of the center
