About The Position

The Student Success Coach will play a vital role in supporting first-year students at Cal Poly Pomona by providing coaching and advising services. This position is responsible for creating and implementing programs that foster student success and enhance the overall student experience within Academic Support Learning Services. The coach will work closely with students to address their emotional, behavioral, and academic concerns, while also collaborating with various campus resources to ensure comprehensive support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Two years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience, including advising students individually and in groups.
  • Experience in directing or coordinating group activities with diverse students and staff.
  • Ability to lead a team, develop training, organize schedules, and maintain supportive communication.
  • Understanding of university policies and procedures.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse constituencies.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related field may substitute for three years of experience.
  • Experience with student affairs programming and assessment activities.
  • Experience working with under-represented, first generation, and transfer students.
  • Demonstrates compassion for student needs and effective communication skills across various modes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional coaching and advising to students, focusing on student development theory and coaching principles.
  • Meet with students to address emotional, behavioral, and academic concerns, utilizing interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students to encourage growth and learning.
  • Maintain knowledge of campus resources to facilitate student support and intervention plans.
  • Utilize platforms to schedule, track, and report on student coaching sessions and campaigns.
  • Monitor students' academic progress and provide interventions for at-risk students.
  • Conduct regular coaching campaigns to assess student needs and develop support strategies.
  • Collect data and outcomes related to coaching for evaluation and reporting purposes.
  • Support program leads with daily operations of summer transition programs, including monitoring student attendance and participation.
  • Document student conduct issues and report them to program leads promptly.
  • Participate in meetings with staff to review student issues and determine appropriate actions.
  • Support the training and evaluation of student leaders, delegating tasks and providing guidance.
