The Student Success Advisor at St. Cloud State University plays a crucial role in providing holistic academic advising and success coaching to students throughout their academic journey. This position is responsible for guiding students in their academic planning, helping them navigate university processes, and ensuring they have access to necessary resources for their success. The advisor will also enhance student success through participation in various programs and events, while representing the Advising and Student Transitions Office at campus activities.

  • Provide holistic academic advising and success coaching for students throughout their academic career.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for assigned students during their first 60 credits and as a Success Coach for their entire SCSU career.
  • Assist students in creating educational goals and academic plans, and interpret policies and procedures related to their goals.
  • Establish trust with assigned students and develop rapport through regular meetings and coaching outreach.
  • Provide timely intervention for students needing support through various retention efforts.
  • Assess student needs and connect them to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Develop Success Plans for students on academic warning or probation and monitor their progress.
  • Participate in Husky Advising and Registration events, providing advising and logistical support.
  • Develop programs to support academic success for special populations of students.
  • Assist with advising and coaching training for new staff and graduate assistants.
  • Represent Advising and Student Transitions at campus events and serve on committees as needed.
  • Engage in regular professional development, including attending the NACADA conference.
  • Master's Degree and 1 year of professional experience in higher education or counseling, or Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience in higher education or counseling.
  • Familiarity with the higher education system and current trends in student success, advising, coaching, and orientation.
  • Experience with interpreting student data and navigating software programs and technology.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
  • Understanding of Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration.
  • Experience working with students in advising, coaching, admissions, financial aid, or related roles.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, academic advising, coaching, or orientation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience using student information systems and student success management platforms.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
