The Student Success Advisor at St. Louis Community College (STLCC) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive and proactive advising, educational guidance, career and transfer planning services for students from entry to completion. This position is dedicated to engaging students in academic planning, interpreting assessments, clarifying their career and transfer goals, and providing referrals to resources that serve them holistically. The advisor adopts STLCC's Student Success Advising Framework, implementing appropriate services, resources, and intervention strategies to enhance the student experience and contribute to improved retention, persistence, and graduation rates. The advisor is responsible for staying informed about institutional and national data regarding the role of student success advisors in promoting student success at the college. They assist students in clarifying their transfer plans and determining the necessary courses of action for successful transfers. Additionally, the advisor educates students on the enrollment process, interpretation of assessment test scores, standards of academic progress, and the utilization of technology tools. They also play a key role in the new student orientation process, helping students understand their academic standing and advising them on how to achieve good academic standing. In their role, the advisor interprets career assessments to assist students with career exploration and education planning, reviews degree evaluations, transfer credits, and college placement test results to help students create an education plan that meets their program requirements. They must remain knowledgeable about changing institutional policies, admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, and deadlines. The advisor adopts an appreciative advising approach to optimize interactions with students, assists in developing educational plans, and maintains connections with students through proactive advising and case management. The advisor is expected to provide various modes of advising delivery, including group advising, online advising, and one-on-one advising, to meet student needs. They also process workflows associated with substitution/waiver requests, add/drop/withdrawal, graduation, and change of major. Furthermore, the advisor provides comprehensive academic, career, and transfer planning services, assists students with career exploration, and may help in developing resumes and cover letters, as well as conducting group presentations for academic, career, and transfer planning. The advisor maintains effective relationships with other college and academic departments and verifies applicable courses related to federal financial aid funding and veteran's benefits. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.
