Job/Department Summary: Under the direct supervision of the SSP IV and Dean of College of Communication& Education, the SSP IB will perform professional student services related to academic advising, student success, and retention for students, faculty, and staff in the Colleges of CME. Responsibilities include direct academic advising for majors and minors within assigned departments, targeted outreach to students within specific populations in the respective departments. Advisors help students develop intentional decision making skills and strategies for academic success and work on problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage. At this level, the primary work processes typically follow well structured work procedures and guidelines. The position will work collaboratively, across divisions, to support institutional and college-level academic equity efforts by monitoring academic progress for historically-undeserved student groups, while utilizing evidence-based best practices to strengthen retention and success.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • One year of full-time equivalent experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate-level, job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.
