About The Position

The Student Success Advisor is responsible for assisting students with assessment, advising, graduation requirements, and transfer functions. This position maintains transfer resources, supplies information for reports, and assists in compiling them to demonstrate effectiveness. The Student Success Advisor assists veteran students, active-duty military students, their families, and other students with enrollment processes in programs and courses during registration periods and administers interest, aptitude, and career-related tests as needed. Reports to the Director, Veteran and Military Family Service Center.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a bachelor's degree.
  • Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
  • Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of§ 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.
  • Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position.
  • A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supports prospective and new veteran students, active-duty military students, their families, and other students through the college admission process, including orientation requirements, residency requirements, transcript requests, testing requirements, financial aid applications, veteran services, and selecting programs of study.
  • Possesses knowledge of academic policies, procedures, and degree requirements and advises students on meeting those requirements.
  • Works closely with other departments on retention and completion strategies.
  • Possesses an understanding of FERPA rules for releasing student information to faculty, parents, and students.
  • Uses admissions tools, including admissions checklists, information packets, residency documents, student records system strategies, and online application processes.
  • Assists veteran students, active-duty military students, their families, and other students with admissions processes, including discussion and research of residency law and guidelines, collaborating with the Coordinator, Admissions to review transcripts to determine testing requirements.
  • Possesses knowledge of institutional financial aid programs (short-term loans, tuition installment plans. deferments), financial aid warnings, financial aid suspensions, financial aid appeals, and general knowledge of numerous third-party receivables and scholarships.
  • Reviews and interprets placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites.
  • Assists veteran students, active-duty military students, their families, and other students with career planning activities and developing an educational or degree plan.
  • Stays abreast of changing institutional information, including admissions requirements, financial aid regulations, new programs, course changes, deadlines, costs, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
  • Develops and presents workshops appropriate to student development and success.
  • Provides appropriate referrals for veteran students, active-duty military students, their families, and other students needing additional academic or student services such as disability support, financial aid, improved study skills, tutoring, or personal counseling.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
