About the position

The position involves supporting and advocating for students' academic success and their social, emotional, and mental health wellbeing. The role requires providing strategies and interventions to promote student development in various life skills, participating in crisis intervention teams, and offering support to students with special needs. Additionally, the position includes presenting relevant topics to students, consulting with staff, and educating on anti-bullying and positive behavior support. The individual will work collaboratively with school staff to ensure a safe learning environment and serve as a liaison with community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support and advocate for students' academic success and social, emotional, and mental health wellbeing.
  • Provide strategies and interventions to promote student development in conflict resolution, social skills, problem solving, decision making, coping strategies, and other life skills.
  • Participate on school/corporation crisis intervention teams and provide individual/family support in crisis situations.
  • Provide individual and collaborative support for students with special needs.
  • Present relevant topics to individuals as well as large and small groups of students to promote personal and relational development.
  • Consult and support administrators, teachers, and other staff in educating the 'whole child'.
  • Educate students and staff in areas of anti-bullying and positive behavior support.
  • Work with administrative and school staff to promote a safe learning environment for all students.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and community resources.
  • Participate on multidisciplinary teams for program development and implementation.
  • Collect and assess program data as needed.
  • Demonstrate professional skills that include excellent communication, organization, rapport building, active listening, and confidentiality.
  • Possess professional knowledge in areas of child development that include social and emotional learning, mental wellness, societal influences, socio-economic issues, cultural diversity, psychopathology, family systems, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
