About the position

Paradise Valley Community College is seeking a full-time Student Services Specialist Sr for the Disability Resources Services (DRS) Office. This position will provide support to current and prospective DRS students who are affiliated with DRS or who are interested in receiving services/accommodations; assist in the application and implementation of reasonable accommodations; coordinates, administers and implements the DRS programs and services by providing operational planning and evaluation, problem-resolution and technical assistance. Provide student services program support, DRS advisement, processing, Testing Center services support and information resource referrals by performing the more technically demanding program support tasks, including extensive responsibilities for student advising, counseling and processing, and to coordinate office workflow and demonstrate a commitment to service excellence, student success/access, and diversity in the performance of job duties. Additionally, provide training and/or support to part-time DRS staff. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates workflow and the implementation of policies and procedures; coordinates, implements, and assesses program goals, activities and outcomes.
  • Provides professional-level Disability Resources & Services to students with disabilities; conducts individual assessments to determine appropriate accommodations and services.
  • Evaluates documentation including medical records, educational assessments, IEP's, and provider letters; compiles and maintains DRS data to gauge program effectiveness.
  • Ensures students receive appropriate accommodations in a timely manner; provides on-going support and communication to students and other stakeholders about accommodations.
  • Maintains daily case notes and confidential records through the coordination of databases and information and reporting systems.
  • Maintains compliance in accordance with all federal and state laws while coordinating projects, services and activities.
  • Follows through with students, staff and faculty in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
  • Uses facts and objective reasoning to make decisions; approaches situations with dignity, consideration and a solution oriented mindset.
  • Uses active listening skills to understand others thoughts, needs and diverse perspectives.
  • Performs presentations to external and internal stakeholders on ADA compliance, DRS process/practices, and resources.
  • Performs DRS program coordination and service support to the campus community including operational planning, problem resolution and technical assistance.
  • Assists faculty and other campus staff members in implementing accommodations i.e. testing, interpreting, captioning, etc.
  • Supports students by making appropriate referrals to available services and campus resources.
  • Provides training to students on testing procedures and other processes associated with DRS's database.
  • Initiates collaboration with others and fosters a team spirit.
  • Coordinates and implements DRS program outreach and recruitment activities (high school transition fairs, event tabling and orientation events).
  • Provides individual/group training on DRS resources, policies, and procedures to students, faculty and/or staff.
  • Serves as a back-up support person for testing services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
