The Student Services Specialist at the University of Hawaii - West Oahu plays a crucial role in supporting Native Hawaiian students' academic success and cultural development. This position is part of a Title III funded grant program aimed at improving transfer and graduation rates for these students. The specialist will provide holistic advising, develop academic success programs, and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for students.

  • Provide holistic advising to Project students navigating their college experience.
  • Support students in fulfilling application requirements for student aid, enrollment, and academic planning.
  • Monitor academic progress of assigned Project students to ensure satisfactory progress and financial aid eligibility.
  • Design and implement educational experiences that contribute to student learning and success.
  • Maintain and manage data on assigned Project students to evaluate the impact of activities and programs.
  • Serve as a liaison to divisions and faculty to convey accurate information to students.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of staff involved in the Title III project.
  • Participate in various national and professional associations relevant to the position.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, humanities, social work, or a related field.
  • One year of progressively responsible professional experience in providing educational services or assistance to students.
  • Functional knowledge of student success principles and practices.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems related to student support services.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Working knowledge of the Hawaiian language, culture, values, and traditions.
  • Two years of professional experience in educational services or student support programming.
  • Experience providing direct services to communities in West O'ahu.
  • Full-time position with a salary range of $49.1K - $62.2K per year.
  • Temporary position with the possibility of extension based on funding availability.
