About The Position

The Student Services Assistant plays a crucial role in the development, promotion, coordination, and evaluation of various student services programs at East Los Angeles College. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities aimed at supporting students in their educational and vocational pursuits, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and guidance.

Requirements

  • An associate degree or its equivalent from a recognized college or university AND one year of full-time paid experience with a student services, social services, or closely related community-based program.
  • OR Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND two years of full-time paid experience with a student services, social services, or closely related community-based program.
  • A valid Class 'C' California driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, promotion, coordination, and evaluation of student services programs.
  • Performs a variety of paraprofessional staff duties related to student events and programs.
  • Assists students in identifying and developing educational, career, and vocational needs and goals.
  • Provides support services to students in assigned program areas.
  • Conducts intake screening and interviews students to determine eligibility for various programs and services.
  • Explains and interprets District policies related to assigned student services programs.
  • Attends meetings, job fairs, and recruiting events to provide information about programs.
  • Visits local high schools and community groups to present college programs.
  • Assists in coordinating college orientation and counseling programs.
  • Maintains liaison with community and public agencies to promote services.
  • Participates in the design and writing of promotional materials for college programs.
  • Assists in preparing the annual budget and controlling expenditures for services.
  • Assists in the selection, orientation, and training of program staff and participants.
  • Writes descriptive, statistical, and evaluative reports related to student services.
