Under general supervision of the Associate Director, the Student Services Professional IB performs moderately complex professional student service work. Assignments typically require the application of both knowledge and judgment in using the principles, techniques, standards, guides and professional skills characteristic of a particular student service program or activity. This generally requires analysis of individual student needs using established guidelines, regulations, and precedents. The Student Service Center provides current, prospective and alumni students with a wide range of information and transactions related to enrollment, registration, and financial matters. The Center is often the first point of contact for students entering Lassen Hall and offers many services and referrals to other areas of Student Affairs and the University, including “home offices” such as Academic Advising, Financial Aid, the Registrar’s Office, and various Academic Colleges. This position is responsible for providing student assistance on behalf of the home offices served and supported by the Student Service Center. The incumbent needs to be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. The incumbent is expected to maintain the highest level of student service that includes accuracy, accountability, empathy, active listening, effective problem solving as well as security and confidentiality of all student records.

  • University student services experience (e.g., advising, admissions, student programming or development)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment subject to frequent change
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide services to a diverse student population
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment
  • Proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Familiarity working with school-based record/data systems/software (e.g., PeopleSoft)
  • Ability to apply moderately complex rules, regulations and procedures
  • Ability to successfully pass background check
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid federal/state regulations
  • Knowledge of Registration and Admissions policies and procedures in the California State University System
  • Experience working with students from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Experience working with at-risk students
