About The Position

The Student Respiratory Therapist supports the delivery of safe, high-quality respiratory care while actively enrolled in an accredited respiratory therapy education program. Working closely with licensed Respiratory Therapists, this role assists with patient care activities, equipment preparation, and departmental operations under direct supervision, contributing to smooth, well-coordinated respiratory services. The Student Respiratory Therapist plays an important role in promoting patient safety and continuity of care while learning within a collaborative, supportive team environment. Through hands-on experience, guidance from experienced clinicians, and exposure to day-to-day respiratory operations, this position supports progressive skill development as the student advances toward professional competency and licensure.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (CPR) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Admission into approved Respiratory Therapist program at Northland Community College in Grand Forks as designated by Trinity Health (this will require a HS diploma/GED for admission)
  • Must Maintain satisfactory academic progress defined as letter grade C or better in approved Respiratory Therapy curriculum
  • Requires a minimum of one year of satisfactory service at Trinity Health
  • Must work a minimum of 20 hours per week at Trinity Health, additional hours may be worked in the home department as negotiated between the student and RT, home department Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed Respiratory Therapists with routine respiratory care activities under direct supervision, in accordance with approved competencies and departmental policies.
  • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment and supplies to ensure readiness for patient care.
  • Observe and participate in patient treatments and procedures as assigned, supporting accurate documentation and communication with the care team.
  • Monitor patients during assigned activities and promptly report changes in condition or concerns to supervising staff.
  • Support department operations by completing non-patient care tasks, including equipment processing and inventory management.
  • Adhere to Trinity Health policies, safety standards, infection prevention practices, and academic program requirements at all times.
