About The Position

Candidates that are hired for a Student Respiratory Care Technician are eligible to be considered for a spot in the Children's Mercy Respiratory Therapy Sponsorship Program. This program provides the maxium annual tuition assistance benefit of $5,250 upon hire. Additionally, CM will provide a stipend payable each semester that supplements the employee's income during the second year of their educational program. A work agreement is required to be accepted to this program. Applications will be accepted January 1, 2026 - Janurary 31, 2026. Interviews will take place in February with hiring decisions by March. Selected candidates would begin employment early summer of 2026. Under the direction of the Medical Director and Director of Respiratory Care, Student Respiratory Care Technicians deliver safe, proficient, and comprehensive Respiratory Care services to all ages of patients at Children`s Mercy Hospital. The respiratory therapist provides accurate documentation of services performed. They complete other responsibilities as assigned and are able to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

Requirements

  • Actively participating and enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care Associate's or Bachelor's program
  • No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
  • Candidates must be eligible to apply for an RT student permit in the spring of 2026
  • Missouri AND KS Respiratory Care Educational Permit Required Upon Hire
  • American Heart Association BLS Required Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Top candidates will be required to provide a letter of recommendation from a current RT Instructor

Responsibilities

  • Administers respiratory treatments to patients
  • Equipment setup, breakdown, low level disinfection and preparation for high level disinfection
  • Utilizes non-invasive monitoring devices as part of patient assessments
