About The Position

This is a regular student technical position which serves as Student Recording Assistant for the School of Music. The Student Recording Assistant supports live performance recording, livestream production, and archival operations across multiple campus venues. This position blends technical precision with a service mindset. Furthermore, this position helps prepare spaces, manage equipment, and support sessions through readiness, awareness, and calm execution. The role emphasizes proactive preparation, attention to detail, and professional conduct in performance environments. Hours per Week 15 hours per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Audio Engineering, Music Technology, or related majors.
  • Prior experience in live sound or recording environments.
  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior classification preferred.
  • Basic understanding of audio signal flow (microphones, interfaces, mixers, DAWs).
  • Familiarity with digital audio software (Pro Tools experience preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Ability to follow structured workflows and documentation standards.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Calm and attentive presence in performance environments.
  • Ability to lift and move audio equipment (stands, cables, small racks).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with setup and teardown of audio and video recording equipment for concerts, recitals, and special events.
  • Support multitrack audio capture and livestream audio production.
  • Verify signal flow, clocking, and monitoring paths before performances.
  • Assist in session documentation and file management according to departmental naming standards.
  • Perform end-of-session backups and archive organization.
  • Maintain recording spaces, storage areas, and equipment inventory.
  • Communicate clearly with Production Services staff and venue personnel.
  • Submit trouble reports or equipment issues as needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
