About The Position

Student Radiology Assistant/Radiology Technologist (Day & Night Shifts) Are you an Upcoming Radiology 2025 or 2026 Graduate? Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Student Radiology Assistant/Technologist. The Radiology Assistant/Technologist performs a wide variety of services as a member of the Imaging Team. Their responsibilities include patient care, technical assistance, visitor advocacy and assisting in achieving the overall work efficiencies within the Radiology Technical work areas. The Radiology Assistant works under the direction of the Imaging Team Leader (ITL) and/or a Registered Radiology Technologist (RRT).

Requirements

  • A completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited body is required.
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following areas is beneficial: Radiology Imaging, Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG, or basic respiratory therapy functions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Perform a variety of tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Perform tasks requiring continuous physical effort.
  • Computer skills.
  • Data input into databases accurately.
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • CPR training required, BLS training recommended

  • Currently enrolled in Radiology/Imaging Program and anticipate graduating in 2025 or 2026!

Responsibilities

  • Has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate care protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients.
  • Performs any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the Registered Radiology Technologist.
  • Prepares patients for the performance of radiographic testing.
  • Assists in the processes of image acquisition, film processing and the delivery of images into the Department's Picture Archival Communication System (PACS).
  • Sets up and maintains operation of clinical facilities and equipment including inventory stock and room preparation.
  • Observes and monitors patient reactions to tests being performed.
  • Communicates all changes in the patient's biophysical, psychosocial and spiritual needs/status to the RRT.
  • Assists the RRT and /or physician with patient examinations or diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs computer functions as it relates to the Department's Radiology Information System (RIS) (i.e. order entry, completing orders, tracking patients, tracking films and scheduling patients).
  • Consistently communicates with the RRT, Imaging Team Leader, Imaging Center Leader and Physician to enhance the quality of patient care in the unit activities.
  • Performs and/or coordinates patient transportation.
  • Incorporates cost-effective measures into practice to ensure proper use of time, supplies and personnel.
  • Learns, performs and masters ancillary services such a darkroom, film copying, and digitization of films.
  • Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies, initiates CPR, and provides the necessary items called for by the emergency response team.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees, agency personnel and employees assigned to their area.
  • Participates in CQI projects as directed by the Image Care Center Leader/Designee.
  • Assists with data collection for research studies as requested.
  • Attends educational programs to enhance clinical practice.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Perform a variety of tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Perform tasks requiring continuous physical effort.
