About The Position

DMC Harper University Hospital has distinguished itself in surgery and medicine and is known for its clinical expertise and innovative research. A specialty referral hospital, Harper has established Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, bariatric surgery, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention and heart failure. The position works under the supervision of a registered Radiologic Technologist as directed operating radiology equipment, following established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include verifying patient identity, reviewing medical records, assisting with patient interviews, explaining procedures, setting up equipment, acquiring images, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The role also involves participating in process improvement activities within radiology practice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of one year training in an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or 9 months training in an accredited Detroit Medical Center school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Two to four months of clinical rotational experience as a student in radiologic procedures preferred.
  • Required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by end of orientation period.

Responsibilities

  • Operates radiology equipment under supervision of a registered Radiologic Technologist.
  • Verifies patient identity and reviews medical records for appropriateness of exam or procedure.
  • Assists radiologic technologist with interviewing patients to obtain, verify or update medical history.
  • Explains procedures to patients, including side effects, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up.
  • Sets up equipment and acquires appropriate images per script.
  • Reviews images, makes initial observations, and documents exceptions from established protocols.
  • Communicates data to radiologist.
  • Utilizes universal precautions at all times, including equipment wipe down.
  • Ensures exam rooms are stocked with linen and supplies.
  • Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies as appropriate.
  • Provides physician-prescribed post care instructions to patients.
  • Assists in transporting patients.
  • Participates in process improvement activities within radiology practice.
