About The Position

Join UChicago Medicine, as a Student Pharmacy Intern in the Ambulatory Pharmacy/Pharmacy Call Center. In this role as a Student Pharmacy Intern, you will have the opportunity to improve your pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and gain experience and confidence and serve patients across a wide variety of disease states. Our Ambulatory Pharmacy team is known for providing medication access services and supporting outpatient pharmacy needs as well. We provide patients with the personal service necessary to ensure that they achieve the most benefit from their medical therapy. The University of Chicago Medicine Department of Pharmacy is seeking highly motivated pharmacy students who are looking to further develop their communication, interdisciplinary and pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and skill. The Pharmacy Student Internship opportunity allows for personal growth and multidisciplinary collaboration, while supporting a team that is dedicated to enhancing lives and being at the forefront of medicine. As a pharmacy intern with Ambulatory (Mail Order) Pharmacy, you will handle a variety of specialty pharmacy duties that increase in responsibility as you gain more experience, including handling inbound calls and outbound refill calls, prior authorizations and counseling patients. This is a great opportunity for students to work in a large, academic hospital and serve a diverse patient population while gaining valuable experience that will strengthen their candidacy when applying for future jobs and/or residencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
  • Student currently enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred one year of pharmacy experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting

Responsibilities

  • Handling a variety of pharmacy duties that increase responsibility as you gain more experience, including inbound calls and outbound refill calls, prior authorizations and counseling patients
  • Provide exemplary customer service to outpatients across UCMC
  • Interacting with members of the interdisciplinary team - physicians, nurses, case management, and social work to coordinate and collaborate on efficient and effective medication therapy management
  • Performs other duties as requested by management
