NA IIs work under the direction of an RN to provide safe, efficient, age-specific care to patients and families to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and/or sustain optimal health status. Responsibilities include: Direct patient care delivery, including, but not limited to: Learn how to scrub into surgical procedures with scrubbed preceptor Gown & glove self, surgeons, residents, etc. Hand instruments up to sterile field Perform surgical counts – instruments & softs and sharps Assists in picking case carts for procedures Learns the role of the circulator with preceptor Check indicators for sterility Assists in obtaining new items or requested items for cases Assists in transferring patients between cart and OR bed Participate in the Huddle, Time Out and Debrief of all surgical procedures Assists in taking specimens to pathology Assists in taking or retrieving blood from blood bank Help positioning patient for surgical procedure and help get SCDs on Assist in exchanging CO2 tanks on equipment Learn multiple surgical services Assist control desk with scheduling add-on cases Set OR rooms up for the next day with correct equipment and room set up Assist in room turnover Retrieve emergency equipment if necessary Learn to work in a close team environment Why choose UH as a Student Nurse?
