About The Position

Under the supervision of a Nurse Leader and the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Student Nurse Technician is responsible for performing specific duties that support patient care, which includes direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing a safe and efficient care environment. This position performs selected interventions and activities that contribute to providing comprehensive care to patients in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. In addition, along with the care team, this position is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience. This role performs in a high activity work environment with multiple priorities and necessitates flexibility in scheduling. Student Nurse Technicians must be actively enrolled in an accredited ASN or BSN Nursing program.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English required
  • Current enrollment in an accredited ASN or BSN program and in good academic standing required
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date required
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use skillful communication with members of the healthcare delivery team and with patients. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand medical terminology.
  • Phlebotomy technology skills
  • 12 Lead EKG/telemetry lead placement skills
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in time management, resources and use of supplies
  • Ability to manage time and productivity without immediate supervision.
  • Strong customer service skills. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Acute care experience as a nursing assistant preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • EPIC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the RN and the nursing care team by performing nursing care measures that contribute to the daily management of patient care. Upholds infection prevention standards.
  • Performs and assists with direct patient care\: bathing, grooming, oral / denture care, perineal care, toileting, elimination, feeding, positioning, repositioning and ambulation.
  • Performs interventions\: specimen collection, urinary catheter care, Point of Care Testing.
  • Obtains and records vital signs using the electronic medical record.
  • Assists in maintaining a clinical environment that is clean, safe and free from clutter.
  • Reports deviations and changes in patient status in a timely manner to the RN.
  • Performs EKG and/or Phlebotomy duties based on assigned unit, hospital, and / or need.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
