About The Position

Performs basic duties to all age patients in the Emergency Department under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse.

Requirements

• Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification/Licensure: Successful completion of approved Nurse Assistant course with certification by the State of Illinois and/or documentation of successful completion of Medical/Surgical clinical from an accredited nursing program
• BLS certification required

Nice To Haves

• Student nurse tech, EMT, EMT-P or technician experience in hospital setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Uses effective communication skills with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families and visitors.
• Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
• Duties may include but not limited to phlebotomy, transporting patients, obtain vital signs, ekg’s, splinting, catheter placement and other patient care task as assigned.
• Additional duties may be assigned based on level of clinical completion
• Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity.
• Maintains the patient’s environment to include appropriate equipment and supplies at all times.
• Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment.
• Maintains supplies and instruments.
• Assists in maintaining a clean unit.
• Responsible for cleaning and set up of patient rooms.
• Completes documentation accurately and timely, according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Utilizes chain of command.
• Maintains calm manner during abrupt changes in acuity and/or activity.
• Recognizes own limitations and seeks assistance when necessary.
• Is flexible with scheduling when necessary.
• Reports defective equipment promptly, completing appropriate forms.
