About The Position

The Student Nurse provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. This role supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process and works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery. The Student Nurse seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking, provides basic patient care, acts as a liaison between patient and nurse, and participates in documentation and reporting.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
• BLS certification preferred.
• Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student.

Nice To Haves

• Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility preferred.
• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process.
• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN.
• Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, recording vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility.
• Acts as a liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Provides high level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees.
• Documents patient care accurately and timely.
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
