Get to Know Your Team: Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is an 820,000-square-foot facility that offers the latest medical programs, cutting-edge technology, and patient-focused care that includes 365 beds, 1,200+ employees and a 27-bed Emergency Room/Fast Track Unit. This is a 10-week summer externship starting June 8, 2026 with the opportunity to continue working after the Summer. Shifts are variable. As a student nurse extern, you will have the unique opportunity to support our nursing staff and gain hands-on nursing experience. Responsible for performing functions as authorized under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. In addition, performs basic nursing tasks to include patient care, reporting patient conditions, circumstances, and maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness. The nurse extern must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Conditions: May be required to work irregular schedules. Potential exposure to hazard materials/situations to include but not limited to, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing radiation, and communicable diseases.

Requirements

  • Must be in good academic standing
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with an anticipated completion from program within 24 months from date of hire.
  • Medical Technology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • CPR certification
  • BLS certification
