Get to Know Your Team: Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is an 820,000-square-foot facility that offers the latest medical programs, cutting-edge technology, and patient-focused care that includes 365 beds, 1,200+ employees and a 27-bed Emergency Room/Fast Track Unit. This is a 10-week summer externship starting June 8, 2026 with the opportunity to continue working PRN after the Summer. Shifts are variable.

Requirements

  • Must be in good academic standing
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with an anticipated completion from program within 24 months from date of hire.
  • Medical Technology; Anatomy and Physiology
  • CPR certification
  • BLS certification

Responsibilities

  • As a student nurse extern, you will have the unique opportunity to support our nursing staff and float among our inpatient units.
  • Responsible for performing functions as authorized under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
  • In addition, performs basic nursing tasks to include patient care, reporting patient conditions, circumstances, and maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness.
  • The nurse extern must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • May be required to work irregular schedules.
  • Potential exposure to hazard materials/situations to include but not limited to, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing radiation, and communicable diseases.
