About The Position

The VUMC Nurse Externship Program provides nursing students with an opportunity to enhance their clinical knowledge and skills while delivering direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nurses. This role is designed to foster both professional and personal growth, ensuring quality and safe delivery of care across various healthcare settings.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School Graduate or GED.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Have completed at least 2 rotations of hospital-based clinical nursing experience prior to the start of the program.
• Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from a VUMC acceptable agency.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
• Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
• Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
• Assists with day to day delivery of patient care.
