Whether you're just getting started or looking to level up your experience, the Student Nurse Extern opportunity will provide a pathway to build a relationship on a unit where you may have an interest in starting your career as a new to practice nurse! This night-shift position will be based on the 32-bed Intermediate Medical Care Unit. As an extern, you will gain experience providing care to a large population of patients with cardiac and medical conditions requiring non-invasive monitoring, and close observation. The unit has an interdisciplinary approach to meet the needs of patients and families. Extern experience gained in this unit can provide a pathway into critical care and/or a cardiac specialty. As a Nurse Extern, you will work alongside an RN mentor and care team, providing holistic and quality care to our patients. You will be paired with your RN mentor for at least 50% of your clinical time - receiving coaching, hands-on learning, and assimilation into the practice environment. Your assigned RN mentor will help you develop critical thinking skills needed to increase your confidence as a nursing professional. In addition, a nursing professional development specialist will support you to ensure your learning needs are met as you gain the best clinical experience possible.
