Student Nurse Extern I (PRN)
About The Position
The goal of the Student Nurse Externship experience is to provide pre-licensed nursing students with immersive experience to enhance their foundational nursing education and role socialization within a clinical setting. This position is intended for nursing students enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing to function as a member of the patient care team. The Student Nurse Extern will spend time working alongside ancillary staff and departments to gain a better perspective of the entire surgical services department. This position provides the student with the opportunity to work with RNs in a variety of healthcare settings, earning valuable experience that will enhance nursing knowledge and prepare the incumbent for a profession as a registered nurse. The Student Nurse Extern will work under the direct supervision of an assigned RN partner, working as a partner-in-practice within the scope of practice of a Nursing Assistant I. Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Current and valid Nursing Assistant certification and listed with the Division of Facility Services Registry.
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited pre-licensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from the start of the student nurse externship.
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions and keep simple records.
- BLS certification required within the first week of employment.
- No experience required.
