About The Position

The Student Nurse Associate Per Diem position at Nuvance Health involves providing assistance with patient care activities and other unit tasks under the supervision of licensed professional staff. This role is designed for nursing students who have completed at least one year of nursing school and are looking to gain practical experience in a healthcare setting. The position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including day and evening hours, and emphasizes patient safety, comfort, and effective communication within the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year nursing school experience required.
  • BLS/CPR certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of start date.
  • Ability to take vital signs and perform basic nursing tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides physical care to assigned patients and performs technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing.
  • Implements nursing orders promptly and adequately with an understanding of the purpose of each.
  • Follows policy and procedure for assigned patient care activities, including unit specific equipment and standards.
  • Provides patient comfort by positioning, extra bathing, straightening linens, and putting personal articles within reach with courtesy and responsiveness.
  • Provides for patient safety through preventative measures (i.e. side rails, restraints, bed/chair exit alarm, and through patient education).
  • Enters all data into the computer system as applicable.
  • Communicates all patient and visitor information and observations to the appropriate person.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit, demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Reports and/or records any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patient; reports all unusual conditions or reactions to the nurse in charge.
  • Recognizes and responds to priorities in the patient care process, exercising good judgement in setting priorities for activities.
  • Uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and significant others.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and a clean, well-stocked work area, assisting with maintaining unit equipment.
  • Works as a Safety Companion/Patient Sitter by providing a safe environment to specific patients, following WCHN standards of service excellence.
  • Maintains competency for Basic Life Support certification.
  • Assists with patient-focused education using the Teach Back Method.
  • Enhances the patient experience through attention to patient and family needs.
  • Participates in the patient admission, transfer and discharge process.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
