About The Position

The Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) supports the mission of Warner University by promoting student spiritual formation, providing 1:1 counseling sessions on a range of mental health issues using a Christian-based approach to individual counseling, and providing data-based programming on campus. The LMHC is expected to affirm and model an active Christian faith that is aligned with the mission of Warner University. Position reports directly to the Vice President of Student Life.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in clinical social work or mental health counseling, or related field.
  • All State of Florida requirements met and active for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
  • The Student Mental Health Counselor must affirm and support the Warner University Statement of Faith ( https://warner.edu/the-university/who-we-are/full-statement-of-faith/ ).
  • Knowledgeable of the latest DSM-5-TR diagnoses and evidence-based treatment modalities (CBT, brief therapy, and trauma-informed care).
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with coworkers, students, and their families.
  • Maintain and adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Organizational skills and an ability to manage records, appointments, and coordinate programming.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and to react calmly in difficult situations while working to develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to work and interact within a diverse environment with demonstrated leadership and management skills are required; ability to lead students in the coordination and implementation of regular activities designed to engage the spectrum of students enrolled in the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct counseling services to students including individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention.
  • Manage the intake and case management of individual student counseling services.
  • Maintain electronic records and file in accordance with Warner University policies and any required industry standards in maintaining counseling records.
  • Provide campus programming using data-driven strategies from student and campus data. Programming on coping strategies, resilience, emotion management and other psycho-educational programming will be required.
  • Provide targeted programming and training for student athletes to assist them in coping with the demands of a student athlete.
  • Consult with staff, coaches, and athletic trainers in caring for students of concern.
  • Coordinate care, as needed, with external medical providers and/or counselors to support integrated treatment of mental and physical health needs of students.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and continuing education to maintain licensure and enhance clinical skills.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity to consult with staff during a mental health emergency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Student Life, Vice President of Student Life, or President of Warner University.
