Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • AND
  • Accepted into the Rocket City Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME)
  • AND
  • Accepted and enrolled into Calhoun College’s AMT program and fulfilled school requirements
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Must have organization skills and effective communication skills with both technical and professional staff
  • Must demonstrate passing grades each semester to remain in role
  • Must demonstrate passing OJT (On Job Training) evaluations each semester to remain in program and role
  • Must participate in all prescribed internal and external training
  • Must rotate to different work teams different disciplines and different shifts to complete all training expectations
  • Must have organization skills and effective communication skills with both technical and professional staff
  • Must be able to respond to safety issues and concerns
  • Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per day):
  • Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl
  • Climb using both legs and arms
  • Head/neck movement
  • Reach outward or above the shoulder
  • Drive or operate equipment such as lifts and/or motor vehicles
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull 15-45 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers, both hands
  • Use of vibrating tools
  • Depth perceptions required
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color
  • Exposure to constant and intermittent noises, fumes, smoke and gases, solvents, paint, grease and oils, radiant energy and slippery surfaces

Responsibilities

  • Active participating student in the Rocket City FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician program
  • Attend class two days per week and work on site three days per week
  • Demonstrate overall safe work behavior, including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adherence to safety guidelines
  • Receive, manage and complete time sensitive work order assignments
  • Read and interpret schematics and completes repairs for hydraulic/pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Repair Computer Numeric Control (CNC) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) equipment
  • Breakdown, clean, rebuild, troubleshoot and repair pumps, air motors, welders, fluid power systems, gear drives, heavy industrial machinery and controls
  • Apply mechanical/electrical aptitude and skills to solve production related problems
  • Troubleshoot, repair and rebuild production and non-production machines and equipment based on written and oral instruction
  • Repair material handling equipment
  • Perform metal fabrication, welding, and heavy equipment repair
  • Work with maintenance organization to resolve open issues
  • Diagnose equipment failures at the system and component levels
  • Work with team leaders to perform scheduled maintenance on equipment
  • Drive or operate equipment such as forklifts and/or motor vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned
