The opportunity Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking Student Library Assistants for our Campus location to provide exceptional assistance to library users in person. Library Assistants serve as the first point of contact for users of the Shapiro Library floor, and are required to be familiar with library operations, maintain user confidentiality, and able to communicate effectively with supervisors, users, peers, and faculty. Assistants should also be highly detail oriented, and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, as well as responsibility and flexibility regarding work schedules.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Must be enrolled in Summer or Fall courses
  • Be able to work hours below during the summer
  • Proficiency in English is required
  • Punctual, courteous, respectful and reports to work as scheduled
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior customer service and/or office work experience is a plus
  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Have working knowledge of Shapiro Library service points, as well as other units housed in the Wolak Library Learning Commons, and direct users as needed to appropriate resources within the WLLC
  • Have knowledge of the SNHU campus to direct users and guests to other campus locations
  • Seasonal displays and book displays
  • Circulate materials accurately and efficiently; students should have working knowledge of circulation policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate accuracy with shelving library items and shelf reading library collection; students should be familiar with the various library collections, fluent in the Library of Congress call number system, and possess strong attention to detail
  • Maintain confidentiality of user records
  • Assist Information Desk Supervisors with routine tasks
  • Assist in general maintenance of library facility—including, but not limited to, basic cleaning, pushing in chairs, and general tidying
  • Run errands between buildings as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist Student Library Assistant Supervisors in staffing the Information Desk in the evenings and weekends
