About The Position

The Student Leadership Development Teaching Fellow is a one-to-two-year appointment for a recent college graduate considering the fields of teaching, youth development, leadership development, and community-engaged learning as a lifelong pursuit and career. At Latin, the Student Leadership Development Teaching Fellow will have the opportunity to engage in various school-specific experiences with the same access to opportunities and professional development as full-time faculty. In addition to teaching courses in Student Leadership Development, possible experiences include sponsoring a club, coaching, attending conferences, and chaperoning domestic, international, Leadership Development, or Community-Engaged Learning related travel experiences. Successful Student Leadership Development Teaching Fellows can re-commit to a second year in consultation with the Director of Student Leadership Development and the Associate Head of School.

  • Our ideal Teaching Fellow exhibits a love of working with youth, is devoted to meeting the whole child's needs – academic, social, emotional, and developmental, commits to the safety and the well-being of our school community, exhibits a willingness to adapt to new and innovative teaching methodologies, demonstrates flexibility in working with colleagues and students, as well as sharing classroom space, excels in communication skills, both verbal and written, is proficient in using technology as an instructional complement, is adept in Google Suite, and is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education on or before June 30, 2026.
  • Background or interest in student leadership development, community-engaged learning, and experiential education.
  • At most, three years of working experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Co-teach/teach Student Leadership Development classes in Upper and Middle School.
  • Advise and mentor a group of students through our “Flight Time” advisory program.
  • Facilitate co-curricular student leadership endeavors in Upper and Middle School. Examples may include the Student Athlete Advisory Council, Speech & Debate, Young Women’s Leadership Program, and Hawks Lead.
  • Support service and community-engaged learning initiatives TK-12th grade.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development alongside other new faculty members.
  • Engage in the broader work of the Student Leadership Development Department and Charlotte Latin School.
