Your Role As a Summer Climate Action Intern, you will join our Climate Action & Sustainability team for a full-time, paid internship opportunity. This is a full-time program running from June 2 through August 7, 2026. You must be available to work in person for the entire duration of the program.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in sustainable building, architecture, engineering, interiors or related field.
  • You have completed your third year of an undergraduate program or first year of a graduate program and are returning to your program post-internship. This internship is not for recent graduates.
  • Basic awareness of key sustainability, wellness, and resilience concepts, including resource conservation, energy efficiency, water conservation, climate change, sea level rise, low-emitting materials, and renewable energy.
  • Familiarity with performance analysis including but not limited to embodied carbon/whole building lifecycle analysis, daylight, energy, solar, and climate assessments.
  • Identify and maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies, tools, and methods as they impact the delivery of green building design.
  • Familiarity with green building rating systems.
  • You submit an online portfolio or PDF demonstrating the design process and innovative design solutions.
  • Are passionate about sustainability and computational tools.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Building Performance Simulation programs (ClimateStudio, Ladybug/Honeybee, Sefaira, IESVE, EQuest) highly recommended.
  • Experience using Life Cycle Analysis programs (Tally, Oneclick, EC3) highly recommended.
  • Experience with Rhino, SketchUp, and/or BIM modeling software (Revit) highly recommended.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

Responsibilities

  • Support process of the LEED Design and Construction credits for projects in Core & Shell, New Construction and Interiors rating systems
  • Document and coordinate LEED credits for review by GBCI
  • Engage project teams to perform project Embodied Carbon Assessments (interior and whole building)
  • Participate in work sessions with clients and design teams to facilitate greater understanding of product selection impacts and opportunities.
  • Participate in the coordination with project design and consultant teams to provide sustainable product selection guidance and technical support, participating in client meetings when necessary
  • Contribute to daylight modeling, energy analysis, and resource efficiency studies using Climate Studio.
  • Identify and maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies, tools, and methods as they impact the delivery of green building design.
  • Research Federal, State, and local regulations and incentives and provide guidance to clients.
