The Student Intern position with Community Services is a great opportunity for current undergraduate and graduate students to get exposure to work in a local government setting. You’ll work on one or more projects that will provide you with relevant experience when looking for a full-time job in the future. In addition to working on your identified project(s), the Community Services Department incorporates several other elements into the internship such as: The ability to attend meetings that provide broad exposure to the entire department's operations. Participation in site visits, informational interviews, and ride-a longs to provide an overview of all County departments. A cohort experience with interns from other departments who often get together for lunch or to socialize after work. Potential summer projects include: Process mapping and evaluation to support Animal Services division operations and customer experience Review of successful strategies for reducing contamination of recycling streams for Solid Waste division Analysis of open space stewardship data to inform potential program and policy recommendations for Parks, Recreation, and Open Space division Conduct observational research to identify library usage patterns and support community engagement related to library bond projects for Libraries division General projects related to grant development, research, and data collection/analysis However, it’s possible that other projects will emerge between now and when the internship starts. We try to match each intern with a project(s) that best fits their interests and goals. The Student Intern temporary position will be for roughly 10-12 weeks from mid-May to early August, and 100% in-office Monday - Friday 8:15am - 5:15pm The Wake County Community Services Department is one of the largest County departments and consists of five divisions: Administration; Public Libraries; Animal Services, Parks, Recreation & Open Space, and Solid Waste. The department employs over 700 individuals in full time, part time, and temporary positions, and has an annual operating budget of over $58M as well as Capital budgets that exceed $200M, and revenue of $8M.
