About The Position

The Oregon Medical Board (OMB) is seeking a student technical/professional worker to undertake various research projects within its fast-paced agency. The successful candidate must demonstrate critical thinking skills. This is a temporary, part-time Student Technical/Professional Worker (Intern) position offering flexibility in work schedule and remote working options. The OMB prioritizes work-life balance and fosters a supportive culture. The office is located on the waterfront in downtown Portland, providing views of the Willamette River and Mt. Hood, with easy access to public transit. The agency emphasizes community, ensuring staff feel included and supported. The OMB's mission is to protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of Oregon citizens by regulating medical practice to promote access to quality care. This involves licensing, regulating, and investigating medical doctors, doctors of osteopathic medicine, podiatrists, physician associates, and acupuncturists. The Board licenses, monitors, disciplines, and educates its licensees to ensure their fitness and competence. This recruitment will establish a list of qualified candidates for the current vacancy and potential future openings.

Requirements

  • Must be a postgraduate student currently enrolled in or having identified a field of specialization in Law or Public Health.
  • Current resume must be attached to the online application.

  • Transcripts and Certifications must be from an accredited institution and will be required at time of interview.
  • Obtain and maintain CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) clearance.
  • Complete the US Department of Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • Employment authorization and documentation must not be contingent on sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Unauthorized use of outside resources such as Artificial Intelligence software during application, applicant skill assessments, examinations, and/or interviews is prohibited.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates currently undertaking a Juris Doctorate or Master of Public Health degree and in good standing with their educational institution.

Responsibilities

  • Research legal issues, past cases and outcomes, licensure issues, etc.
  • Produce reports or other documents as appropriate.
  • Issue-spot and subsequently research legal and regulatory topics.
  • Develop administrative rules, policy documents, procedures, or presentations for Medical Board members based on research.
  • Review consistency in administrative reviews during licensing.
  • Research and create materials for legislative concepts.
  • Research and draft proposed rules.
