About The Position

Are you a college student or a recent college graduate seeking an internship for the Spring 2026 semester? If so, continue reading to learn more about this exciting part time paid opportunity with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NC DPS). This is an Experiential Rotational Internship which offers students an opportunity to rotate through key areas of the Controller's Office. The rotation will provide a broad understanding of accounting and finance operations. The NC DPS Rotational Internship Program period is from Monday, January 26, 2026 to Thursday, April 2, 2026 (10 weeks). Interns in the Controller's Office will experience a comprehensive rotational program, gaining hands-on experience in various key areas. Students will primarily work in the Financial Reporting section, where they will learn about financial reporting preparation. Additionally, interns will have the chance to collaborate in Cash Management, Accounts Payable (including invoice auditing), Grants Management, and Compliance, providing a well-rounded understanding of our financial operations. About the Controller's Office: The Financial Reporting Section in the Controller's Office is responsible for the preparation of the Department's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and ensuring that the information is complete, accurate, and prepared in accordance with GAAP and timely submitted to the Office of State Controller. This section is responsible for the quarterly Sales and Use Tax Refund and is also responsible for several other functions, including preparing complex monthly reconciliations such as Fixed Assets, the Disbursing Accounts, and Construction In Progress (CIP) reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Must be a current college student (graduate or undergraduate) pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting OR a recent college graduate (within the last 6 months) with a degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.

  • Must be a currently enrolled in college or a recent college. Note: "Recent" graduates are those who have graduated within the last 6 months.
  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree (or a recent graduate) in one of the following fields: Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
  • Must have a GPA of at least 2.5 (Please upload your unofficial transcript).
