About The Position

The student intern will support a comprehensive visual documentation project of the original Dine College Tsaile campus. This role involves photographing campus buildings, architectural elements, murals, sculptures, and historical construction drawings to support a publication project. The intern will also assist in researching potential archival images and coordinating with campus departments to ensure an accurate and high-quality final booklet.

Requirements

  • Current Dine College student enrolled in the School of Arts & Humanities.
  • Basic experience with digital photography (camera operation, composition, exposure).
  • Basic computer skills, including life organization and use of common software.
  • Basic knowledge of digital photography principles, including exposure, composition, and lighting.
  • Understanding of photo file formats, resolution requirements, and digital file management.
  • Skill n operating digital cameras, lenses, and related equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing large sets of images and associated metadata.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with the PI, Marketing Department, and Dine College Press.
  • Skill in time management and meeting deadlines.
  • Basic skills in editing, cropping, and preparing high-resolution digital images.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments in the field.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and follow up on project tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with multiple departments.
  • Ability to carry and operate photography equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, or adjust positions to capture appropriate angles and details.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when capturing exterior shots.
  • Enrolled in Diné College.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in architectural documentary or artistic photography.
  • Familiarity with photo-editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of Dine College history, campus architecture, or Dine cultural elements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large sets of digital files and maintain organized archives.
  • General understanding of Native American or Dine cultural elements (preferred).
  • Knowledge of standard office software and photo-editing tools (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Photograph all existing buildings in the color of the original Dine College campus (interior and exterior).
  • Photos will document the overall design of the campus and include appropriate details of the architecture and art.
  • Photograph all existing murals and cornstalk sculptures on the Tsaile campus.
  • Investigate the existence of any construction photos and original ceremony for the blessing of the land.
  • Be a self-motivated worker and make independent judgments.
  • Help PI to coordinate layout of publication booklet with PI, Marketing Department, and Shondiin Silversmith (Dine College Press).
  • Follow up on details.
  • Deliver high-resolution photographs in digital form by January 15, 2026.
  • Be available for any re-shoots that are necessary.
