About The Position

This position is a seasonal Student Intern position assigned to Mineral Wells, TX that will begin June 1, 2026 and last for 10 weeks, Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM. Housing will not be provided. The Student Intern position will be working under the Field Operations Department and will work closely with Task Force Coordinators, Wildland Urban Interface Coordinators, Regional Fire Coordinators, Foresters and Woodland Ecologists. The intern will be exposed to many aspects of the agency.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college/university that have completed their junior year of college up to second-year post-graduates (masters/Ph. D students), in a course of study relevant to the mission of the agency: Natural Resource Management, Range Science, Forestry, Emergency Management or closely related field.

  • Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Valid State of Texas Drivers license

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to students with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
  • Ability to utilize GIS/GPS programs.

Responsibilities

  • Gain familiarization in both fire and natural resource management programs.
  • Engage in supporting fire prevention and mitigation programs, which include development of Community Wildfire Protection Plans and Firewise Communities, hazardous fuel projects (including prescribed fire and forest mulching) and wildland fire training if available.
  • Provide GIS mapping and data support, assist in Stewardship plan writing, Oak Wilt surveys and assist with landowner workshops.
  • Assist in promoting the benefits of prescribed fire and mechanical fuel reduction projects.
  • Provide support for fire department capacity building programs and wildfire response.
  • Assist other programs and branches with delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.
