About The Position

Brief Description of Role & Responsibility: This position supports innovation projects focused on the development of pediatric medical technologies while participating in the Innovation CO-OP program. The role provides hands-on exposure to early-stage medical device development, front-end innovation methods, and the commercialization lifecycle within a healthcare environment. Students will work closely with clinical innovators, engineers, and external partners to translate unmet clinical needs into viable medical technology solutions. Work includes a mix of project support, technical contribution, and structured learning through their CO-OP. This is a full-time, temporary co-op assignment running from May 11, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Key Responsibilities Support innovation projects from concept through early commercialization by assisting with timelines, milestones, and deliverables Provide engineering and technical support for pediatric medical device development, including prototyping, testing, and design activities Collaborate with clinicians, internal teams, and external partners to ensure clear communication and alignment across projects Participate in training focused on front-end innovation, human-centered observation, needs identification, concept generation, and intellectual property strategy Assist with regulatory, reimbursement, and business planning activities, including market analysis and customer discovery Engage in clinical immersion and observation to help identify unmet medical needs and innovation opportunities Prepare and support project documentation such as invention disclosures, grant applications, presentations, and progress reports Skills Computer aided design (any package experience) Model design from concept to functioning prototype Microcontroller programing: Arduino based coding Arduino IDE, Python etc. Raspberry Pi and MATLAB programing coding a plus DC circuit design at component level and ability to assemble/solder Electronic component integration into custom cases/hardware Experience with hand tools General building skills Safety Minded 3D printing experience STEM program involvement Willingness to troubleshoot technical issues and find solutions Qualifications Comfortable working in ambiguous and complex problem spaces Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines Strong written and verbal communication skills Interest in medical device innovation and healthcare technology Learn The position responsibilities vary throughout Cincinnati Children's and are established according to the needs and resources of the Cincinnati Children's department providing the placement opportunity. Learn the daily routines of healthcare/research investigators, foster career interests in healthcare/research. Gain experience and awareness of the academic, technical and personal skills required in healthcare/research professions. Gain an understanding of different health/research careers, including the cultures and work environments that can be unique to a particular healthcare/research profession.
