About The Position

General Responsibilities: The Student Guggenheim Gallery Assistant is pivotal in maintaining essential gallery operations, including supervising exhibitions, managing events, and engaging visitors. This role involves keeping the gallery spaces clean and organized and supporting the Director and Coordinator with exhibition installations and related public relations activities. Assistants are tasked with the setup and breakdown of exhibitions, conducting gallery tours, and managing scheduling for various groups including students, faculty, and external guests. They are also responsible for supervising exhibitions, handling artwork logistics such as packing and storage, maintaining detailed records of gallery inventory and condition reports, and ensuring the operational efficiency of storage and supply areas. Responsibilities Photographer: In addition to general gallery responsibilities, the Photographer is responsible for creating a high-quality visual record of the gallery’s exhibitions, installations, and public programs. This includes photographing exhibitions for documentation, promotion, and archival purposes, as well as capturing events such as openings, artist talks, and performances. The Photographer ensures that images are well-composed, properly lit, and edited to reflect the gallery’s professional standards. Duties also include performing image corrections and basic retouching, preparing files for both print and digital use, and maintaining a cohesive and organized archive of visual materials. The role requires attention to detail, consistency of style, and an understanding of how images serve both promotional and historical functions. The Photographer may also collaborate with the Social Media Specialist to supply visual content that enhances the gallery’s outreach and public presence.

Requirements

  • Little to minimal prior experience.
  • Ability to learn support process.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
