About The Position

The student graphic design specialist meets with other specialists and IT staff to plan Graphic Design projects including posters, logos, slide deck presentations, branding, and more. This role provides client-based communication experience and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong visual design skills with a demonstrated understanding of layout, color theory, typography, and branding.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud tools, specifically: Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign
  • Basic understanding of digital formats (PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF) and resolution requirements for web and print.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving ability to translate ideas into visual form.
  • High level of organization and ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills for engaging with staff and students through email, Microsoft Teams, or in-person.
  • Willingness to receive and apply feedback constructively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive or internal content.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be a currently enrolled, full-time student at Ithaca College.
  • Pursuing a degree or minor in Graphic Design, Communications, Emerging Media, or a related field (Graphic Design minor preferred).
  • Experience with visual storytelling and designing for specific audiences (e.g., students, staff, faculty).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Portfolio of design work (class projects or personal work acceptable) is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Design a variety of digital and print graphics for IT-related initiatives, services, events, training materials, and campaigns.
  • Create visual content such as posters, digital signage, social media graphics, infographics, email headers, and presentation materials.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, student workers, and other departments to conceptualize and execute visual materials.
  • Work both independently and cooperatively within a creative and technical environment to complete assigned projects on time.
  • Maintain brand consistency and adhere to Ithaca College's visual identity guidelines across all designs.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas to improve communication and engagement.
  • Prepare and optimize final artwork for both print and digital publication.
  • Document design workflows, version control processes, and project procedures for future reference.
  • Assist with photography, video editing, or basic animation as needed (optional based on skills).
