About The Position

Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving 400,000 people living in central, western and Midcoastal Maine. CMH's hospital facilities include Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. CMH also supports Central Maine Medical Group, a primary and specialty care practice organization. Other system services include the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, a regional trauma program, LifeFlight of Maine's southern Maine base, the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center and other high-quality clinical services. The Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team. The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. All newly hired externs will shadow with a RN for all shifts.

Requirements

• In final year of RN school program or graduated and awaiting licensure
• Must obtain state RN licensure within 90 days
• Must be in good and academic standing
• Current Basic Life Support Certification

Responsibilities

• Act as an adjunct to the patient care team
• Perform at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college
• Provide direct patient care in accordance with established protocols under the general supervision of an RN
• Expand skills under the supervision of an RN
• Shadow with an RN for all shifts
