The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program with completion of nursing fundamentals course.
  • Student must be in good academic standing.
  • Current BCLS (ARC or AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
