About The Position

The Peer Tutor Student Employee assists other students to build relevant skills to prepare them for their future career.

Requirements

  • Full-time enrollment.
  • Meets satisfactory academic status.
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Minimum B grade in the course/subject to be tutored.
  • Recommendation from an instructor in the course/subject to be tutored.
  • English tutors must have completed English 1510 (or equivalent) with an A.
  • Strong subject knowledge in content being tutored.
  • Ability to listen and engage positively.
  • Ability to answer and explain the questions/subject matter clearly.
  • Ability to engage students for discussion.
  • Basic computer skills/literacy.
  • Promptness and dependability.
  • Takes initiative and works independently.
  • Motivated by student success and able to motivate students to come to tutoring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer tutoring assistance to Hocking College students.
  • Coordinate with lead instructors in the applicable subject areas.
  • Check and respond to emails in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, including the time and topics covered.
  • Assist students with accessing course materials.
  • Refer students to other campus services.
  • Assist the instructor with course related activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
