As a Student Employee in the field of Hematology, you will play a crucial role in supporting the operations and research activities within our hematology department. This position offers an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, working alongside experienced professionals in the field.

  • Rotate and replace stored stock in the Core Lab
  • Notify supervisor of inventory levels and identify items to be ordered.
  • Evaluate specimens for adherence to lab requirements for testing, including adequate identification, sample container types, sample volume, and centrifugation.
  • Set up specimens for testing by bench techs by putting them in appropriate racks and storage conditions according to the daily pending lists.
  • Maintain refrigerators, freezers (defrost as needed, rotate stock, dispose of expired items).
  • Assist with the specimen-tracking system.
  • Organize and clean workspaces.
  • Screen calls to the lab and direct them to the appropriate section as needed.
  • Call the critical results to the appropriate caregiver and document per policy.
  • Ensure adequate supplies required for daily operations are available at the workbench by restocking inventory and refilling water containers with filtered water.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be enrolled in UAMS Medical Laboratory Sciences Program
