About The Position

The Student Development Specialist I, under direction, provides professional and supervisory assistance for the advisement, coordination and organization of student developmental programs, activities, and/or services. Requirements

  • Education – Bachelor's degree
  • Experience – No experience required
  • Knowledge of: Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to: Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the advising of a variety of student groups/organizations.
  • Counsels and advises students on personal and educational matters.
  • Acts as a referral resource for students.
  • Helps to guide students in planning and scheduling social and budgetary procedures.
  • Prepares informational and educational publications.
  • Assists in maintenance of pertinent student and administrative records.
  • Coordinates and assists in planning in-service training programs.
  • Issues memoranda and prepares administrative reports.
  • Works with the Vice President of Student Engagement on identifying and supporting needs of transfer and returning students
  • Coordinates, plans, and implements activities as a means of increasing student involvement
  • Supports success of transfer and returning students by promoting wellness services provided by the Student Engagement Division offices
  • Helps generate new ideas and implement ways to use digital communications to engage students including social media posts, blogs, videos, and podcasts etc.
  • Assists in developing and executing marketing campaigns to strengthen our branding and increase engagement among students
  • Create a network with community colleges to educate future students about TAMIU and its many support services.
