About The Position

The Student Care and Conduct team within the Division of Student Affairs is seeking to hire a Student Conduct Specialist IV or V. The Student Conduct Specialist serves as a non-academic student conduct officer, independently responding to students in distress and engaging with stakeholders to understand University conduct processes and polices. The Conduct Specialist uses Maxient Conduct software to produce student conduct analytics to inform practice and identifies documented cases for review of federal and state law including, but not limited to, the Clery Act. This position provides timely support to departments regarding behavioral concerns and distressed student situations, assists with the development of the Dean of Students policies, procedures, and publications including the Student Handbook, and conducts benchmark studies to assess the current practices of peer institutions, recommend best practices, and generate comprehensive reports to outline recommendations. The Conduct Specialist serves on the Student Affairs On-Call Crisis Team, a 24/7 response team. There is one position available to fill. The specific job profile assigned to the position – Student Conduct Specialist IV or V – will be determined based on candidate qualifications.

Requirements

  • Student Conduct Specialist IV: Bachelor's degree in a related field and six (6) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Student Conduct Specialist V: Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Independently serves as a non-academic student conduct officer within the Dean of Students Office; creates schedules, manages thorough communication, documents cases in a software database, updates case files, tracks sanctions for completion, and inputs police reports
  • Performs student conduct analytics and assessments to assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the student conduct program
  • Holds administrative conduct meetings with students who have allegedly violated the Code of Student Conduct, resolves cases, and assigns sanctions as appropriate based on assessment of provided information
  • Serves as a student conduct hearing facilitator, as directed by the Kentucky Campus Due Process Protection Act; manages assigned cases, ensuring effective administration by preparing notifications and documentation, scheduling conduct meetings and hearings, notifying participants, and reviewing physical and/or documentary information submitted
  • Assists students in distress by providing care and support as necessary such as responding with emotional awareness, conducting one-on-one meetings, and coordinating campus and community resources to help students resolve immediate difficulties and concerns with mental health and medical and financial issues
  • Serves as a 24/7 crisis responder as a part of the Student Affairs On-Call Team, providing support and resources to students involved in accidents, incidents of physical and mental harm, and those who are transported to the hospital; coordinates appropriate responses with other University officials and student family members; offers support with a continuing commitment to care, notifying instructors and coaches of a student’s absence and performing other operative tasks and actions to assist students returning to the University
  • Advises faculty and departments of student behavioral concerns and distress situations; evaluates alarming, disruptive, and threatening student behavior; discusses and develops crisis and care interventions for concerns that arise in residence halls and/or are presented from campus partners and individuals including faculty, staff, students, visitors, and family members
  • Works with external stakeholders, often under adverse conditions, to explain, discuss, and interpret policies and procedures, applying an in-depth understanding of policies and procedures relative to specific circumstances
  • Assists with presentations for faculty, staff, and students regarding crisis, conduct, and care; establishes strong working relationships with University stakeholders such as University Police, Campus Housing, The PEACC Center, and the Counseling Center
  • Assists to develop Dean of Students policies, procedures, and publications including the Student Handbook; conducts benchmarking studies to determine current practices of peer institutions, recommend best practices, and create reports to outline best practices
  • Supervises the University Conduct Hearing Council, composed of faculty, staff, and students; maintains current database of member contact and other information; and provides training and updated materials as required
  • Establishes and maintains a relationship with the Office of Student Engagement to educate and update student organizations about conduct, rights, responsibilities, and community relations
  • Serves as a liaison between the Dean of Students Office and the SGA Judicial Board by assisting with complex conduct issues and clarifying procedures and options to respond to issues amongst student organizations and branches of SGA and for election disputes
  • Coordinates programs, events, and activities for the Dean of Students Office, such as the Annual Student Awards program and unit-wide collaborative programs.
  • Represents the Dean of Students Office on committees and at activities and events such as Welcome Week activities and the Meal Plan Waiver Committee
  • Manages the student emergency fund application process; reviews emergency fund applications, determines awards, and coordinates the distribution of awards
  • Works with external vendors to create and provide programs that support students acquiring resources for basic needs
  • Executes other duties as assigned
