About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Coordinator serves as the manager of the non-academic student conduct system. The Coordinator works to assist members of the College community with the cultivation and maintenance of a safe, inclusive, fair, and caring educational environment that is conducive to learning and personal growth. The coordinator is responsible for engaging in equity-minded best practices in developing and overseeing student conduct and conflict education case management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of the College’s non-academic student conduct process; coordination of individual and organizational student conduct; implementation of a comprehensive educational process for helping members of the college community to understand their individual and collective rights and responsibilities; and the expansion of educational programming regarding conflict resolution and student skill development. Requirements

  • REQUIRED: Bachelors Degree Required, Masters Preferred
  • Two years + of student life specific or related higher education experience
  • Knowledge of student conduct theory and practice
  • Knowledge and utilization of student development theoryCritical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to respond in a timely manner to student concerns
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and effectively prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience and technical skill in navigating or managing a conduct management system (e.g., Symplicity Advocate)
  • Proficiency working with common College-specific computer application programs (e.g., Simplicity Advocate, Datatel Colleague, Google Suite, StarRez)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, commitment to, and experience working within a diverse community. A successful candidate will express an understanding of identity intersectionality and communicate strategies for inclusive community-building.

  • Advanced degree in higher education, student development, conflict resolution, counseling, or another area relevant to the work of the Office of the Dean of Students
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise regarding government statutory and regulatory compliance (e.g., Clery Act, FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, Stop Campus Hazing Act, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, facilitate, and lead training curricula, presentations, and other learning activities to a variety of audiences (e.g., students, staff, faculty, etc.)
  • Active involvement in related professional organizations

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent and timely management of student conduct and conflict education cases, taking into consideration community safety and well-being needs; the rights of individuals and organizations; legal requirements; and student educational opportunities.
  • Participate in administrative responses to student-related health and safety incidents and facilitate interventions for conduct concerns occurring both on and off campus.
  • Investigate, manage, and adjudicate student conduct cases that may result in a status sanction
  • In partnership with Campus Experience, oversee residential community concerns and provide training and support for residential staff
  • Management of workflow in campus conduct platform and monitoring of case resolution and follow up
  • Develop, implement, and assess resolution options for student conduct concerns, which include, but are not limited to, conflict resolution, facilitated dialogue, mediated discussion, educational outcomes, and/or restorative justice practices
  • Monitor sanction completion
  • Assist with scheduling administrative and appellate hearing boards
  • Aid with the organization and timely dissemination of case information to administrative hearing officers as needed
  • Serve as a hearing board panelist for alleged violations of The Student Code, including cases of sexual misconduct and other Title IX-related matters
  • Keep well-informed regarding current literature and developments related to best practices in student conduct, relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations (such as Time, Place, and Manner) and related impact on processes and practices
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to provide education to the student community on maintaining a safe and inclusive campus.
  • Proactively address campus issues through partnership and education.
  • Maintain close relationships with residential staff to address emerging issues or concerns.
  • Provide employees with opportunities to learn how to address student behavior.
  • Utilize students to provide education, address concerns, and work widely across the campus to collaboratively provide support for student success
  • Conduct educational workshops and training sessions regarding community expectations, student accountability, and conflict resolution processes for students, faculty, and staff
  • Assist with the design and facilitation of training programs for residential staff, new student programs, and as needed, hearing board members, administrative panelists, and advisors
  • Assist with the development and delivery of educational and skill-development programming and workshops (e.g., alcohol and other drugs education; hazing education; bystander intervention; etc.) to be provided during Weekend of Welcome and throughout the academic year.
  • Engage in relevant and available professional development opportunities and share information with campus partners.
  • Represent the Office of Community Life at campus events, fairs, workshops, etc.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and directly or indirectly supervise student support staff (e.g. student workers, graduate assistants)
  • Develop and direct the implementation of student staff on-boarding, on-going, and professional development training content
  • Monitor student support staff performance and provide direction and assistance
  • Evaluate, counsel, and make recommendations regarding student support staff retention and employment decisions
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for inquiries regarding the Student Conduct Process
  • Manage and monitor the office communication accounts (e.g., phone, email, social media)
  • Coordinate record requests and the certification process for student conduct records
  • Contribute to annual review and revision of the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook
  • Review and make recommendations related to student conduct policies, procedures, and practices
  • Implement processes for assessing and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of programs and the development of services to meet student needs
  • Create timely reports regarding student conduct-related data for Department annual reports and as requested by the Associate Dean, Dean of Students, or VPSL
  • Assist with the coordination of biannual department self-assessment using relevant CAS & ASCA standards and instruments
  • Provide information for annual reporting (i.e., ASR)
  • Participate in both division and College committees as assigned.
  • Work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and culturally diverse campus environment and develop effective relationships within the division of Student Life and with other areas of the College.
  • Participate in divisional student programs.
  • Serve in on-call capacity.
  • Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and perform job-related duties as may be reasonably assigned by their supervisor.
