SASP members are trained to be alert to the safety needs of the College community as they patrol the residence halls, parking lots, and other areas of campus. They assist the Office of Public Safety with locking academic buildings and making sure residential buildings are secure, operate the campus escort program by offering a walking escort to students, perform blue-light and emergency phone inspections and assist with parking enforcement and crowd control during special events. This includes athletic events, concerts, Convocation and Commencement. SASP members maintain two-way radio contact with Public Safety and can request officer assistance whenever needed. Although our focus is on education rather than enforcement, if necessary SASP may issue judicial referrals to violators of the Student Conduct Code and/or parking tickets to violators of the IC Parking Rules and Regulations. They are also trained to identify and assist with medical emergencies and will be certified in CPR/First Aid. SASP are community-oriented student peers who work hard to serve the community in which they live and learn. The schedule is very flexible and you choose the hours you are able to work each week.
