About The Position

SASP members are trained to be alert to the safety needs of the College community as they patrol the residence halls, parking lots, and other areas of campus. They assist the Office of Public Safety with locking academic buildings and making sure residential buildings are secure, operate the campus escort program by offering a walking escort to students, perform blue-light and emergency phone inspections and assist with parking enforcement and crowd control during special events. This includes athletic events, concerts, Convocation and Commencement. SASP members maintain two-way radio contact with Public Safety and can request officer assistance whenever needed. Although our focus is on education rather than enforcement, if necessary SASP may issue judicial referrals to violators of the Student Conduct Code and/or parking tickets to violators of the IC Parking Rules and Regulations. They are also trained to identify and assist with medical emergencies and will be certified in CPR/First Aid. SASP are community-oriented student peers who work hard to serve the community in which they live and learn. The schedule is very flexible and you choose the hours you are able to work each week. Requirements

  • SASP applicants are required to complete a basic training course before they are accepted as employees. The candidate phase consists primarily of classroom instruction (4 two-hour sessions) and a weekend observational patrol. After these sessions, successful candidates will then be hired and will continue with the probationary member phase, which focuses on practical experience and last for at least 10 patrol shifts.
  • All SASP must be enrolled as full or part-time students at Ithaca College and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.6.
  • All employees must also be in good standing with Student Financial Services and have a clear history with the Office of Judicial Affairs.
  • Applicants must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time in all types of weather.
