About The Position

The Araci lab in the School of Engineering is seeking a motivated undergraduate student researcher to conduct research on capillaric strain sensors and actuators. The researcher will perform experimental and computational research at the nexus of microfluidics, biomechanics, and electronics for the development of devices that synergistically work under the control of human activities.

Requirements

  • Matriculated in a Santa Clara University undergraduate program and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Knowledge in fundamentals mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in photolithography and soft lithography.
  • Advanced knowledge of material characterization.
  • Understanding of strain actuated microfluidic devices.
  • Proficiency in design softwares AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • Experience in COMSOL Multiphysics software
  • Ability to design experiments and analyze data.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills for preparing reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Ability to perform Digital Image Correlation based strain analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Capable of designing and executing computational experiments with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to meet deadlines and adapt to evolving research priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or research experience in biomechanics, microfluidics and wearable biodevices is preferred.
  • Experience with capillaric strain sensors.
  • Experience in publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate microfluidic devices.
  • Model and simulate mechanical and microfluidic devices.
  • Conduct literature reviews and stay updated on advancements in microfluidics.
  • Perform experiments with human subjects.
  • Develop wireless electronic sensing strategies.
  • Document methodologies, results, and findings through detailed reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners, as required.
  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
